In October 2022 Sudbury Hall reopened with a new experience within its walls and renamed it The Childrenā€™s Country House at Sudbury. On entering the hall you are taken into the portal room where a short talk is given explaining that the country house experience is very much for children and adults. Along with the splendid architecture and paintings you get in all English history homes there is plenty of interactive features for the children to engage with. Upon leaving the room we enter into the grand staircase and wow! what a staircase. Stunning portraits all around and the ceiling painting is just breathtaking.

From the top of the stairs you come across two rooms, The Talbot Room & The Long Gallery. The Talbot room is a wonderful small room head to toe in books, according to the information this room was used by the family to explore and learn about other cultures.

The magnificent Long Gallery, which stretches an impressive 150 feet in length. Adorned with beautiful plasterwork and adorned ceilings, this gallery serves as a testament to the hall's rich architectural heritage. As you wander along its oak-panelled walls, take a moment to admire the collection of portraits showcasing the hall's former inhabitants. These paintings provide a fascinating insight into the lives and stories of those who once called Sudbury Hall home. Also along with the wonderful decor you will find boxes with toys for children to play in the gallery as did the children of its time. At the end of the gallery you will also find the opportunity to create your own portrait photo.

There are a few more amazing rooms to explore in the hall to be transported back in time as you soak in the opulent surroundings.Ā With its baroque architecture and intricate detailing reflect the craftsmanship of its era, offering visitors a tangible connection to the past.Ā
Making our way down some rather old stone steps to 'The World Below'.Ā Housed within the hall's former servants' quarters, this uniqueĀ section offers a nostalgic journey through childhoods past, present and futureĀ with some amazing interactive items for children (and adults) to enjoy.

After a quick pit stop at the cafe in the Stable Yard it was time to visit the Childhood Museum.

From vintage toys and games to antique dolls and teddy bears, the exhibits provide a captivating window into the experiences of children throughout history. Whether you are reliving cherished memories or discovering the playthings of a bygone era, the Museum of Childhood is a treasure trove of delight for visitors of all ages.Ā I have to say I was in my full element in there.Ā

In the museum thereĀ is more interactive things to do, such as climb up a chimney (not a real one) like they did in victorian times, take a victorian school lesson and arts and crafts. Oh and look out for the Dalek!
